The recently re-constructed Office of the May Pen Office of the National Works Agency was opened on Friday, April 2, 2009. The facility was declared open by Minister Mike Henry.

The new building replaced one which had fallen into serious disrepair.

Speaking at the re-opening ceremony, Minister Mike Henry noted that it was a happy occasion to formally open an entirely new parish office for the NWA in May Pen.
Said he, “Today, we are here to formally embrace the re-transformation of this section of Trenton Road to its former glory. For indeed, the former office in its heyday prior to its crippling latter years, was a central point of influence this side of town…”

The overall cost of the re-building project was approximately $12M. Lascar Fencing was  responsible for the fencing at a cost of $2.7M
Rehabilitation of the building was started in July, 2008 and completed in January, 2009 at a cost of $5.2M. This aspect was done by Melvin Jones General Construction and Haulage Company Ltd.
Funding for landscaping, the demolition of the old office and the re-use of material from the demolition to construct a conference room and guard house was obtained in January, 2009.

Another aspect of the work included the grading of the compound, the construction of a parking area for equipment and visitors, the laying of kerb blocks as well as the planting of fruit trees, flowers and grass. This was done at a cost of $4M. The overall project was completed on April 15.

The new complex is bolstered by better response capability in terms of infrastructural needs, through access to equipment being harnessed across the national landscape.
Also speaking at the ceremony was Permanent Secretary, Dr. Alwin Hales who highlighted the fact that he was pleased with the work that the NWA had been doing over the years.

“As the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry to which the National Works Agency reports, I wish to record my appreciation for the work that the Agency has been doing. In nine short years since its inception, the Agency has become a household name in Jamaica,” he declared. CEO of the Agency, Mr. Milton Hodelin, Chairman of the Clarendon Parish Development Committee, Mr Billy Shagoury and Mayor of May Pen, Milton Brown also spoke at the ceremony.
