Newly appointed Minister of Transport, Works and Housing, Dr. the Hon. Omar Davies met with senior staff members when he assumed duties on Monday, January 9, 2011 at his Maxfield Avenue Offices.
He was introduced to various members of staff by Permanent secretary, Audrey Sewell who expressed her delight at receiving the Minister.
On Wednesday, January 11, Minister Davies met with Heads of Agencies and senior staff, followed by a Press Briefing. During the meeting, with the Heads of Agencies and senior staff, Dr. Davies used the opportunity to outline his expectations. He highlighted the fact that members of the public should be treated with utmost respect, noting that whenever persons contacted the Ministry/Agencies on any issue, a response should be provided one way or the other. In underscoring the need for transparency and equality, the Minister charged the gathering to do everything to enhance the quality of service given to respective constituents. He asked Agency Heads and Directors to be realistic and credible when making projections as this would make for a more sincere and genuine working environment.
He implored Heads of Units to ensure that, in outlining whatever challenges, that they have possible strategies listed to address said challenges. Turning to the issue of financial health of entities, he served warning that a timetable would be done to ensure that all Agencies have their audited accounts brought up-to-date.
The Press Conference which followed saw many questions covering the various portfolio responsibilities were fielded by Minister Davies and Minister Guy from the journalists who were in attendance. Also in attendance at the Press Conference was Minister of State, Richard Azan.
