Media Release new CEO named for NWA

Dr. the Honourable Omar Davies, Minister of Transport, Works and Housing is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Everton G. Hunter as the new Chief Executive Officer of the National Works Agency (NWA). This will take effect on May 1, 2012.

The selection was made following advertisements which appeared in the press and the subsequent interview of applicants for the position by the Public Service Commission.

Mr. Hunter has had a distinguished career in public service and he was previously employed to the National Water Commission for over nineteen years, eleven of which he served as President. He also served in other capacities in Government including the Ministry of Health.

Hunter, a Civil Engineer by profession, is the holder of an MSc degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan as well as an MBA from the Monash University in Melbourne, Australia where he pursued studies on a Commonwealth Scholarship.

During his tenure at the NWC, Mr. Hunter led the transformation of the organization that saw the improvement of its business processes. He also presided over massive infrastructural expansion projects on the north coast, a number of which complemented and facilitated the construction of several Spanish model hotels. Most recently, he was a consultant to the Inter-American Development Bank, engaged in a project associated with the Barbados Water Authority.

In welcoming Hunter to the position, Dr. Davies says he is looking forward to him using his wealth of experience to assist in the implementation of proper systems for the monitoring of contracts as well as the strengthening of performance criteria for the entity’s activities and deliverables.

He is a member of the Jamaica Institution of Engineers, Jamaica Institute of Management as well as the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association
