Minister of Transport and Works, Hon. Mike Henry, has said that issues relating to the recent work stoppage at the historic Falmouth Cruise Port Development, Trelawny, have been settled and the facility will be ready for February 17.
The original date set for a port call by the vessel, “Navigator of the Seas”, with some 3,400 passengers of Friday (January 7), was missed as the project fell behind and the ship was re-routed to Montego Bay.
Mr. Henry, responding to a request from Prime Minister Bruce Golding to visit the Pier, was accompanied by Minister responsible for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon Daryl Vaz; Minister of Tourism, Hon Edmund Bartlett; Minister of Sports and Culture, Hon Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange; and Manager of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), Joan Gordon Webley.
Speaking at a special meeting on the $220 million project Wednesday (January 5), Mr. Henry told the media that the objective now was to focus on completing the, including the Pier, the town of Falmouth and adjoining facilities.
Mr. Henry said that following Wednesday’s meeting, he and ministers Vaz and Bartlett are going to move forward on the three-tier development coordinated by the Port Authority “so that we have one umbrella organization that will be responsible for whatever is to be implemented,” he pointed out.
