Jamaica’s Transport and Works Minister, Mike Henry along with his counterparts from Trinidad and Barbados met in Trinidad today to discuss matters associated with Red Jet’s request for approval to fly to Trinidad and Jamaica.
Issues discussed included safety, new routes, economic sustainability, ownership as well as future business growth..
Arising from the discussions, it was agreed that any and all outstanding matters relating to the airline’s application to fly to Jamaica and Trinidad would be speedily addressed by the Civil Aviation Authorities in the respective countries. In the meantime, the respective ministers would report back to their Prime Ministers and Cabinets for final decisions on the way forward .”
The Ministers also agreed to continue discussions relative to the challenges of the airline industry and any other matter which would expand the growth of air travel in a safe and economically viable environment.
Red Jet, the low cost airline operating out of Barbados had applied to both Jamaica and Trinidad to provide air service and have been awaiting approval from both countries.
