‘Hope’ for Harbour View Residents as Construction Set to Begin on Hope River Bridge

Posted on January 23, 2015 in Uncategorized

Following the extensive damage of the Dry River Bridge in Harbour View after the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav in 2008, the residents of Harbour View and surrounding communities can now breathe a sigh of relief as work is slated to commence on the construction of the New Dry (Hope) River Bridge. The New Bridge will be constructed at a cost of approximately US$8.9M, and is being executed under the Transportation Infrastructure Rehabilitation Programme at a cost of US$50M which is being funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)

The new 130m span structure will be built to accommodate four lanes of traffic, consistent with the projected traffic volumes entering Kingston along the eastern corridor.

The Dry River Bridge is considered the most viable access point to Kingston for the populations of eastern St. Andrew, St. Thomas and parts of Portland.

To date, work has started by Kier Construction Company Limited on design of the bridge. The construction component of the project will be carried out over a period of 18 months, and is slated to be completed by September of next year.
