MTWH STAFF GET LONG SERVICE AWARDS

Eight persons from the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing received Long Service Awards at the Jamaica Civil Service Long Service Award Ceremony held at Kings’ House on Wednesday, November 18, 2015.

Those receiving awards were Leyton Baker (31 years), Marcia Bennett (25 years), Donald Emsley (25 years), Michael Hylton (25 years), Lorraine McFarlane (25 years), Marcia Morgan (25 years), Juliet Stewart (25 years) and Kay Webb (25 years). All told the eight recipients have contributed over two hundred years’ service to the Civil Service.

Commenting on her tenure in the service, Lorraine McFarlane who currently works as an Executive Secretary in the Office of the Permanent Secretary says, “I have had a productive time working in the Service; the experience has afforded me the opportunity of being exposed to various aspects of the Public Sector. The Service has evolved throughout the years to now become a more modernised entity. ”      

She says notwithstanding challenges at times, she would recommend it as a viable career path to persons as it offers various opportunities for advancement.

The Long Service Award is a feature of Civil Service Week which is celebrated annually and is put on by the Jamaica Civil Service Association. Persons who have served within the service for twenty-five years and upwards, are eligible for the Award.

Some of the other activities that marked Civil Service Week were the Brain Games competition, a church service and an Exposition in Emancipation Park
