TRINIDADIAN OFFICIALS MEET WITH JAMAICAN OFFICIALS RE: CAL/AIR JAMAICA

A Trinidadian delegation headed by Senator the Hon. VasantBarath, Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment met with a Jamaican team led by Dr. the Hon. Omar Davies, Minister of Transport, Works & Housing on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 to discuss matters pertaining to Caribbean Airlines/Air Jamaica.

Both parties had frank discussions concerning the two major issues of outstanding amounts owed by CAL to Jamaican public bodies (Airports Authority of Jamaica and the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority)as well as the question of whether it will be legally possible to operate that airline with two brands in the future.

Arising out of the meeting, it was decided that a joint working group be established which would review the issues and present recommendations for consideration by the two governments.

Among the Trinidadian delegation were Senator the Hon. DevantMaraj, Minister of Food Production, Land and Marine Affairs and former Minister of Transport and Dr. Iva Gloudon, Trinidadian High Commissioner to Jamaica. The Jamaican team included Hon. Dr. Morais Guy, Minister without portfolio (Housing), Mrs. Audrey Sewell, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, in addition to members of the Boards of the Norman Manley international Airport and the Airports Authority of Jamaica.
