A two man delegation representing the Turkish Co-operation and Co-ordination Agency (TIKA) visited the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing on Friday May 9, 2014.

The delegation which was hosted by a team from the Ministry headed by Permanent Secretary Audrey Sewell, included other officials from the Ministry as well as some of the Agencies.

The Turkish team outlined several areas in which they would like to engage in further talks with Jamaica. These they outlined as poverty eradication/alleviation, sustainable and economic development through technical co-operation and grants, the development of institutional capacities as well as partnering in training programmes.

Additionally, the Turkish team indicated that they were seeking to open an office in the Americas which would facilitate partnerships with multi-lateral Agencies; Jamaica, they said, would be among the countries considered for such an office.

For her part, Permanent Secretary Audrey Sewell said that there were several areas of opportunities within the Ministry and its Agencies ready to be explored. She invited the Turkish team to pursue some of these opportunities which would see the Ministry doing everything to facilitate them.

Among the Agencies present at the meeting were, the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, the Caribbean Maritime Institute, the National Works Agency, the Road Maintenance Fund, and the Maritime Authority of Jamaica.
