Ministry gets good marks from Auditor General

The Ministry of Transport, Works & Housing is reporting that it has been making headways in its thrust to make its operations and that of its agencies more effective and efficient. To this end, it has taken strategic decisions to tighten systems and processes within the entities falling within the ambit of the Ministry.

External endorsement of this thrust recently came from the Auditor General. According to the Auditor General, the Ministry was able to satisfactorily address the concerns that arose from the examination of the 2011/2012 Annual Report and so the Ministry was no longer required to appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Commenting on the good news, Permanent Secretary Audrey Sewell says that this is really a positive move in terms of where the Ministry is headed. “We have had quite a few instances in the recent past where our operations have not left us proud; it is really great to have welcome news for a change.”

The Ministry in the meantime continues to take measures to strengthen its business processes as well as its governance structures and that of its agencies with the expectation that these will eventually result in a better public sector.
