BROOKS COMMON RESIDENTS TO GET SECURITY OF TENURE FOR HOUSING

Posted on January 19, 2015 in Uncategorized

Plans are afoot for hundreds of residents of Brooks Common in May Pen, Clarendon to gain security of tenure with respect to housing. On Friday, July 18, 2014, Minister without Portfolio (Housing) the Hon. Dr Morais Guy, led a delegation from the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing to get a first-hand view of the housing infrastructure and layout of the area. The delegation included personnel from the Social Services and Land Administration units.

Touring alongside Member of Parliament for Central Clarendon, Mr Mike Henry, Minister Guy was briefed on the legal and physical impediments that the residents face in legitimately occupying the lands. Following a tour, Minister Guy joined the residents in a community meeting to discuss their concerns. There he outlined the Ministry’s thrust to facilitating legal tenure for them. The Minister acknowledged that a commitment was given to the residents some years ago and pledged his support in making that promise a reality. Minister Guy encouraged the people to work collectively in assisting the Ministry with its titling drive for the area.

Over the next few months, representatives from the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing will be in the Brooks Common community to carry out occupancy audits that will inform how the Ministry proceeds with its regularisation plans.
