MINISTER HENRY TOURS SEGMENT THREE OF NORTH COAST HIGHWAY

Minister Mike Henry spearheaded a team which toured Segment Three of the North Coast Highway Improvement Project on January 23.

The Minister toured an area spanning, White River, Ocho Rios in St. Ann to Annotto Bay in St. Mary. He noted that work was proceeding on the corridor satisfactorily and entreated the contractor to engage in satisfactory work. The Minister said that he is looking forward to the completion of the project as he says that it will have a positive impact on not only the social but the economic lot of the communities involved and by extension the widerJamaica. He noted that the positive experience with Segments 1, 2 and 2a has made it even more necessary for Segment 3 to become a reality.

Segment Three runs from Ocho Rios in St. Ann to Port Antonio, Portland. Work being done includes, an increase in the road width, re-construction of 12 bridges, construction of a dual lane and partial rehabilitation of the pavement. The drainage system is also slated for improvement.

Contractor for the Project is E. Pihl & Sons and sub contractor is Lagan International .The contract is in the amount of Euros 80M. The overall objective of the project is to foster long term economic diversification and growth in tourism sector by improving road conditions.

Accompanying the Minister on the tour were members of the Ministry of Transport and Works, the National Works Agency along with residents from the communities through which the Project runs.
